Malcolm Arnold's music encompassed a wide variety of forms from opera and ballet to orchestral and chamber music as well as film music. His most famous film music, for which he won an Oscar in 1957, is The bridge on the Kwai, In 1953 he was commissioned to compose Tribute to the queena ballet for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
