This annotated chronology of Western music is the third in a series outlining the music history of Western civilization. It contains an annotated 120-page bibliography, followed by a detailed, documented outline divided into ten chapters. Each chapter is written in chronological order, with each line documented with abbreviations referring to the annotated bibliography. There are short biographies of the theorists and detailed discussions about their works. The information about the music is organized according to music classes, not composers. Also included are lists of manuscripts with descriptions of their content and notations where to find them. The material for the classification comes from primary and secondary sources as well as articles from magazines.
Like the other two volumes in this series, Music history from Late Roman to Gothic, 313-1425 and Music History in the Renaissance, 1425-1520This band will be an important research tool for anyone interested in music history.
